Turkey Sausage Patties

INGREDIENTS

1 pound ground turkey
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1/2 tablespoon rubbed sage
1/2 teaspoons ground thyme (double if using leaves)
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt with parsley
½ teaspoon black pepper ½ teaspoon cayenne
Pinch of grated nutmeg
¼ teaspoon cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 350F. Add all of the ingredients to a bowl and mix well. Divide the mixture into 16 patties and place them onto a foil or parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake at 350F for 30 minutes or until the sausage is fully cooked and reaches an internal temperature of 165F. Broil for 2-3 minutes to brown the patties. When I mixed it, I first poured the syrup then added the spices, and mixed well. It's a lot easier that way to get it mixed well into the turkey and be able to see where it goes to know if you need to mix more. The original recipe called for double the sage, but fresh. Also, double the thyme, but fresh. So I cut in half (and in half again for the thyme since it was ground and not leaves). It also called for 1stp of salt. I feel like the finished product was missing something, and I was guessing salt since I cut it in half, so I think I'll add more next time. I also just realized I used 1/2tps instead of tb of Sage because I misread. So it was missing about 1tsp of Sage so that would probably make a difference next time lol. I served it on the baking powder biscuit recipe that's in this album. The original recipe also called for 12 patties. However, the last time I made something similar I bought a tube of turkey sausage and cut it into 16 rounds. So I split this into 8 equal parts by scoring the turkey in the bowl I mixed it in, then cut those in half. I didn't worry about the thickness, I watched the DIAMETER. I knew if they were close to the size of a tube of turkey, they would perfectly fit my biscuits (cut with a 2" juice glass), and they did come out perfect in that regard.
